The future of girls hockey in Eastern Ontario was at the Canadian Tire Centre today for an all-girls hockey day camp.
More than 200 female hockey players between the ages of seven and 12 took over the arena, spending the day learning on and off-ice drills from Varsity athletes and two-time Olympic gold medalist Cassie Campbell-Pascall.
The girls were skating as part of the 11th annual Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest. The one day event included on-ice sessions with Campbell-Pascall, and off-ice sessions with players on both the Carleton and University of Ottawa women's hockey teams.
"I think it is very important for young girls to have female role models," said Campbell-Pascall.
